PAPER DISTRICT

Cartografica Galeotti operates its factories in the most important Paper district in Europe, that of the Province of Lucca.

Thanks to the abundance of water and the north winds that characterize the area, as well as the central position with respect to Italy and the Mediterranean basin, we have a centuries-old tradition of paper production, which dates back to the thirteenth century.

Overall, the district’s paper and paper converting sector includes more than 100 companies with more than 6,500 employees and a turnover of almost 3,500 million euros.

78% of the companies are made up of paper mills that produce paper for corrugators, and tissue and cardboard for industrial, food and packaging uses, while the remainder is made up of paper converting companies. The district, producing about 900,000 tons per year, is responsible for approximately 80% of the national production of paper tissues (17% of the European figure) and, with about 1,000,000 tons per year, a value close to 40% of the production of national corrugated cardboard (5% of the European figure).
